About the Role

We are seeking a committed and resilient leader to manage the day-to-day operations of Birmingham's Temporary Accommodation centres. You will play a crucial role in ensuring safe, supportive and well-run environments for residents experiencing homelessness, while delivering a customer-focused service that helps households sustain their TA tenancy and move on to secure accommodation.

You will lead staff, oversee building operations, manage risk, and work closely with colleagues across the Housing Solutions & Support Service to improve outcomes for some of the city's most vulnerable residents.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Manage daily operations across designated homeless centres, ensuring safe, compliant and well-maintained environments.
  • Lead and develop staff, providing supervision, performance management, rota oversight and on-call cover where required.
  • Ensure void units are allocated fairly and efficiently, maintaining capacity for emergency placements.
  • Oversee safeguarding, health & safety, building compliance and incident response, including breaches and evictions.
  • Manage budgets, expenditure, rent collection, income maximisation and accurate financial record-keeping.
  • Work collaboratively with Housing Solutions & Support and external agencies to coordinate tenancy support and move-on activity.
  • Monitor service performance, analyse data, produce reports and implement service improvements.
About You

You will have strong operational leadership experience, excellent judgement, and the ability to manage complex situations with sensitivity. You will thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment and be committed to improving the experiences and outcomes of homeless households.

You Will Have:
  • Experience managing frontline services, including staff supervision, performance management and decision-making in complex situations.
  • Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, TA provision, safeguarding practices, tenancy management and property safety regulations.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable customers, managing difficult behaviour and navigating sensitive or contentious issues.
  • Proven ability to analyse data, write complex reports and use performance measures to improve service delivery.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills with partners, stakeholders and residents.
  • Ability to manage budgets, projects, operational processes and building-related compliance.
  • Resilience, sound judgement and the ability to work independently under pressure.
Why Join Us?
  • Make a direct and meaningful difference to households experiencing homelessness in Birmingham.
  • Lead the operational running of key TA centres supporting residents with diverse and complex needs.
  • Play a central role in improving move-on pathways and reducing reliance on B&B accommodation.
  • Work closely with partners, statutory services and voluntary organisations to deliver joined-up support.
  • Influence service development, policies and practice improvements across TA operations.
  • Represent the Council at multi-agency meetings and contribute to strategic decision-making.
  • Be part of a dedicated and supportive team working to deliver safe, effective and compassionate services.
