The Mental Health Housing Support Worker role:

As part of this role, you will work collaboratively with tenants, to provide a range of practical and emotional support and interventions in order to manage their tenancy, aiming to reduce the risk of tenancy failure, reduce the risk of anti-social behaviour, and improve a tenant's ability to maintain their tenancy long term.

Key duties and responsibilities of our Mental Health Housing Support Worker:
  • Support customers presenting with low level mental health issues to address multiple needs which are impacting on their ability to maintain and sustain a tenancy.
  • Undertake assessments with tenants and offer a package of support, by developing support plans with tenants, carrying out effective review of these plans, and giving clear goals and directions.
  • Provide emotional support through face-to-face visits and offer a range of various interventions to the tenant to address their needs, ensuring they are meaningful, respectful and promotes self determination and confidence.
  • Provide practical support to ensure income maximisation, i.e., benefit applications, providing supporting information for claims, working with creditors to address debt issues etc.
  • Provide a point of contact for the Neighbourhood teams and other relevant officers who have identified tenants they feel may have unmet low level mental health needs.
  • Work closely with mental health provision in Barnsley in order to link individuals with more complex mental health issues to specialist services.
What we're looking for in our Mental Health Housing Support Worker:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Housing, Social Work, Health or equivalent; or relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Experience of working with / supporting tenants with low level mental health issues and complex needs, and having the ability to be creative, flexible and imaginative in your approach.
  • Experience of using recognised assessment tools, and delivery of a range of interventions, for effective outcomes.
  • Competent and confident in use of IT packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to travel as necessary to meet the needs of the post.
  • High professional standards, organised and able to work on own initiative, managing a heavy and challenging workload.
