Make the most of your CIH membership - how to use the Knowledge Hub

CIH logo

Things can move quite quickly in housing, so making sure our members have a space to get vital up-to-date news, information and guidance is incredibly important to CIH. In this article we’ll look at the Knowledge Hub and how this online resource can support you in your role as a housing professional, whether that’s accessing best practice case studies or the latest information on legislation.

You can access the Knowledge Hub directly at: https://www.cih.org/knowledge-hub, or via the “Resources” tab on the main menu of the CIH website.

Nine libraries

The Knowledge Hub is comprised of nine libraries that are constantly being updated with the latest thinking, case studies and best practice examples. You will also find links to our larger, live campaigns. We are always on the look out for great stories or case studies to highlight the amazing work of our members, so if you have something to shout about please email the team at: marketing.communications@cih.org.

  1. Professionalism & training: Professionalism is all about the people behind the organisations. You’ll find a wealth of case studies in this library; everything from star apprenticeships to long service award winners. So, whether you are new to the sector or developing your career and training this section will highlight what you need to know to help deliver on our core purpose. Access this library here.

  2. Income & finance support: This section provides resources, tools and information on income management including supporting tenants with benefits advice, welfare schemes and financial wellbeing. Supporting tenants can lead to better sustained tenancies. Access this library here.

  3. Tenants & residents: With new satisfaction measures in place to find out how tenants are feeling, this section on tenant engagement offers an overview of tools and approaches to get feedback from residents in your communities. Access this library here.

  4. Assets & safety: From fire safety, damp and mould, building safety, to cyclical maintenance and planned works, there are always new and adapting technologies and best practices to asset management in housing. Here are some of the key resources to help you. Access this library here.

  5. Tenancy & support: This section covers the different tenancy types across all the CIH nations. Get to know the types of tenancies and find useful resources to help you manage the tenancy management and support side of housing including domestic abuse, anti-social behaviour and safeguarding. Access this library here.

  6. Homelessness: In this section we look at all things pre-tenancy. You will understand the key drivers for homelessness and the importance of early intervention and prevention work including partnership working and the information around temporary accommodation. Access this library here.

  7. EDI, data and digital: This section brings together resources and approaches relating to providing a more inclusive housing sector. Similarly, data management, GDPR and digital transformations are key to providing a more accessible tenancy for your residents. Access this library here.

  8. Climate & sustainability: Covering everything from fuel poverty to net zero, this section highlights key terms relating to climate and sustainability and brings together resources and publications to support your learning on the subject as we move towards a better sustained sector and industry. Access this library here.

  9. Private rented sector: This nation-specific information will help you find the best ways to work with the private rented sector (PRS) to meet housing need. Growing regulation means more focus will be on this side of housing over the coming years. Access this library here.
