This is a hands-on, people-focused role supporting the design, delivery and continuous improvement of Prevention programmes across Northumberland. Day to day, you'll coordinate and deliver engaging safety education and interventions, work closely with operational firefighters and partners, support the management of educational programmes and ensure activities for young people and community groups are safe, effective and impactful.
About the team:
You'll be part of Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service's Prevention Department working a team with a diverse skill set. The team works collaboratively with schools, Northumbria Police, council services and community organisations to deliver prevention programmes that directly support the mission of making Northumberland safer.

An organised, proactive and confident individual who enjoys working with people. You'll be a strong communicator, comfortable planning and delivering education programmes and interventions, good at building partnerships, and confident managing safety, administration and records. You'll care about prevention, public service and helping people make safer choices.
Location:
Based in Northumberland, with travel across the county to community venues, schools and fire stations.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
Essential:
You will bring recognised qualifications in youth work and assessment, alongside up-to-date Safeguarding Adults and Children training. You will have working knowledge of health and safety, child protection, and vulnerable adult legislation, applying this confidently through risk assessment, safe working practices and accurate record keeping.
You will demonstrate the core competencies required for the role, including clear and adaptable communication, collaborative working with partners, sound decision-making, practical problem-solving, digital and data awareness, and a strong focus on community needs and service delivery. You will also be comfortable providing day-to-day supervision and support to others involved in programme delivery.
Strengths critical to success in the role include being disciplined in following procedure, highly organised, proactive in preventing risk, precise in documentation and records, and responsible when safeguarding children and overseeing programme delivery.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
Essential:
- Youth work qualification
- Assessor qualification
- Safeguarding Adults and Children qualification
- Training in Equality and Diversity
- Teaching qualification
- Knowledge of firefighting and Fire Service activities.
- Working directly with challenging children, young people or vulnerable groups, both one-to-one and in group settings.
- Engaging with community or youth groups and delivering community safety or prevention initiatives.
- Ability to prepare, deliver and assess high-quality theoretical and practical learning activities tailored to different audiences.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, with the confidence to work effectively with operational staff, partner agencies, parents, carers and referral bodies.
- Ability to organise and prioritise workloads, manage programme logistics, and meet deadlines in a busy, safety-critical environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
- Willingness and ability to meet the transport and travel requirements of the role.
