Job Introduction

Following the retirement of the previous postholder, we are looking for a Senior Officer who can provide leadership to the hardworking and professional Housing Support Team. The Housing Support Team provides a high level of support to key business processes in the Housing Operations service. Housing Operations is responsible for the enforcement of housing standards in rented properties, licensing of HMOs, delivery of adaptations to disabled people, provision of financial assistance to vulnerable homeowners and bringing empty properties back into use.

The Senior Officer - Housing Support Team is a key role in the Housing Operations service. As well as supervising a team of 8 FTE Administration Officers, the Senior Officer needs to build and sustain excellent relationships with internal and external customers to ensure that the Housing Support Team continues to provide high quality support which is flexible and adaptive to constantly changing needs.

The main responsibilities of this role:
  • Supervise a team of up to 10 FTE Administration Officers, including approving leave, recording sickness and having regular performance focused 1:1 discussions.
  • Provide day to day management of the team to ensure core activities are covered, such as providing phone and physical office cover.
  • Manage processes within the Housing Support Team to ensure that robust quality standards are maintained.
  • Develop effective responses to changing needs - of internal customers especially - and balance conflicting demands on the Team's resources.
  • Assist managers and other senior officers in Housing Operations with problem solving and in developing processes and procedures to underpin effective working and improved service delivery.
  • Oversee the immediate office environment to ensure that key materials are available when needed, such as stationary and PPE, and that equipment such as printers/ scanners, support service operations.
