Part Time
Homelessness Support Worker

Location: Martin House & Hatfield Road, St Albans
Hours: Part-time (32.5 hours per week)
Salary: £23,271 per annum

Join our dedicated homelessness team supporting adults with complex needs to regain stability, build independence and move towards their own accommodation.

The Role

Based mainly at Hatfield Road (5 beds), you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the service, offering practical and emotional support that helps residents feel respected, included and empowered. You will:
  • Support residents with daily routines, life skills and personal goals
  • Respond calmly to challenging situations and maintain clear boundaries
  • Keep the building safe through checks, repairs reporting and maintaining shared spaces
  • Complete accurate case notes, risk assessments and other documentation.
You will also spend time at Martin House (16 beds) for safety checks and occasional support, working collaboratively with the wider team.
Regular lone working is required, so confidence and good decision-making are essential.

About You

You are resilient, proactive and calm under pressure, with strong communication skills and the ability to engage people from diverse backgrounds. You are organised, IT-confident, and committed to compassionate, person-centred support. Experience is helpful but not essential - strong life experience and the right attitude matter most.

Shifts:

Flexibility is essential, as you will work a 3-week rolling rota that includes evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Shifts include a mix of:
  • Early shifts: earliest start 7am, latest finish 4:30pm
  • Late shifts: earliest start 12pm, latest finish 10pm
  • Weekend working: 1 in every 3 weekends (10am-6pm)
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is required (business insurance needed if appointed).
Hightown Benefits
  • £23,271 per annum (32.5hrs)
  • 33-35 days annual leave (pro-rata)
  • Blue Light Card - access to thousands of retailer discounts
  • Mileage paid
  • Ongoing training and development
  • Pension & life assurance (3× salary)
  • Long Service Awards
  • Monthly Attendance Bonus
  • Annual salary and cost-of-living review
  • Employee assistance helpline
We will be shortlisting and interviewing on an ongoing basis so may close the vacancy early.
