Housing Standards Officer - Mid Sussex District Council Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex Salary: £35,412 - £39,862 pa About the Role: Mid Sussex District Council is seeking a driven Housing Standards Officer to join our Environmental Health team. We are looking for an enthusiastic officer who is passionate about improving housing standards. As a Housing Standards Officer, you will be required to carry out inspections, investigations, provide advice and undertake appropriate enforcement actions in respect to all relevant housing legislation. To do so, you must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including maintaining accurate records, drafting reports and dealing with correspondence. You must also have a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes. Your key responsibilities will include: <ul><li>Investigating and carrying out inspections relating to housing standards especially those relating to the licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation and responding to complaints about housing conditions in both the private rented and social housing sectors.</li><li>Applying the appropriate enforcement legislation to ensure compliance is obtained in relation to housing standards.</li></ul><ul><li>Delivering grant assistance including Disabled Facility Grants in a timely manner by supporting the customer through the application process and ensuring the customer at the end of the process has the much-needed adaptation along with receiving a high-quality experience.</li></ul>You will work closely with other staff and management of the friendly and successful Housing Standards team, to ensure the team continuously delivers the highest quality environmental health services to our customers. You will be based at our Eastbourne Foyer, located in the heart of Eastbourne, where the service maintains strong connections with and contributes actively to the local community. Oversee the residents' referral, interview and induction processes for all beds and ensure the Occupancy Agreements and House Rules are fully understood. Ensure the quality of accommodation that is provided, liaising with the Housing and Property Services team to complete estate inspections and health and safety risk assessments, and to turn around voids and organise repairs in line with organisational targets and statutory obligations. With the Supported Housing Manager ensure effective income collection for all beds, working closely with the Rents team to create a rent payment culture. Leadership and People Management: Directly line manage team members, ensuring their service delivery, working culture and personal development mirror best practice.
