Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly motivated team working with the homeless, hard to reach and difficult to engage clients in Reading. The team provides a range of services via drop-in clinics to clients at a variety of venues including hostels, specific women's services, health screening at probation (offenders), and work closely with the Reading Street Outreach team (St Mungo's) actively going out on the street to engage people rough sleeping. This job will require one morning a week, in a two to four week rotation with the team, working the early morning outreach shift and flexible working shifts 5pm-7pm on a Monday and Thursday as required. We are redesigning in our service and investing in it, to: <ul> <li> Increase our success in preventing homelessness. </li> <li> End our use of hotels and shared temporary accommodation for families. </li> <li> Improve move on from Temporary Accommodation. </li> <li> Reduce our use of and spend on Temporary Accommodation. </li> </ul>The Move On Team is a newly established Housing Options Team, to include: <ul> <li> 7 Move On Officers </li> <li> Housing Support Register experts </li> <li> A Priority Move On Scheme function </li> <li> A Team Leader, who will supervise your work and the development of the team. </li> </ul>The cost of emergency and temporary accommodation is a significant financial challenge for the council; and it is good practice to engage fully with our clients to ensure the best and quickest move on options for them, fully documenting all casework and providing a positive handover to their new housing providers. You will manage a caseload of households, working directly with them to provide face-to-face, telephone and written support, information, advice and encouragement to ensure that they have active move on plans and that their Personal Housing Plans are updated and actioned until successful move on is achieved. In this role, your work will identify solutions for households with low incomes and/or debts, aiming to reduce or remove these barriers to move on. Another area of focus will be providing clear advice about the risk of refusing accommodation offers, the limitations of rehousing via the council's Choice Based Lettings Scheme; and alternatives, such as private renting and options outside of Bristol. As part of a team, you will build strong relationships with a range of external services, to gather collective knowledge and apply it to maximise successful move ons and tenancy sustainment. We are seeking front line Housing Solutions Advisors to join a team that makes a difference and transforms lives. The primary role of the Housing Solutions Advisor is to undertake homeless assessments and process applications to the Authority's Common Housing Register. The key objective to prevent homelessness by producing innovative solutions to clients remaining in the home or finding alternative accommodation. An effective Housing Solutions Advisor will have experience of managing complex and detailed casework. The successful candidate will have experience of detailed homelessness prevention casework as well as homelessness legislation, and making enquiries and legal decisions in line with the statutory duties of a local authority. Working as part of a busy team you will need to work well under pressure and on your own initiative as you will build and manage your own caseload to Bridgend's service standards. To succeed in this role you will be a good problem solver who is able to work assertively but sensitively and also be a good team player. The successful candidate will be able to plan and prioritise work effectively to contribute towards the delivery of a high quality housing service.
