The Floating Support Service is a locality-based service providing a supportive service to households across Greater Manchester, in temporary accommodation who are homeless. The service offers a strengths-based approach to help households to stabilise their lives and to move forward positively into permanent rehousing. Many of those accessing this service may have vulnerabilities or be experiencing hardship. They may have multiple complex support needs which can range from poor mental health and wellbeing, substance misuse, poverty, unemployment and domestic abuse in addition to their being homeless. The role holder will be empathetic, practical and outcome focused in leading a team of staff in delivering a holistic, strength-based service to all households. The move on workers will also support Managers with inhouse transfers, and offers through Manchester Move and the Private Rented Sector, to ensure this process is fluid and successful . Move on support ensure that families are spending less time in temporary accommodation. About the Candidate Support Workers must have an awareness and understanding of homelessness and the impact this has on families and individuals. Homeless people can have multiple and complex needs and may be vulnerable. The role requires you to have personal resilience, a keen and committed desire to help and support people and a solution focused outlook. The role can be challenging and demanding as the work can include issues relating to loss of tenancy, debt, domestic violence, substance misuse, mental and physical health problems. The role holder will have a good understanding of safeguarding. They will demonstrate excellent partnership working skills building and developing close working relationships with the voluntary sector, agencies, health partners and organisations. The experience below would be beneficial but is not essential: An understanding of homelessness legislation would be an advantage however this is not essential and full training will be provided. This is a rewarding role which involves managing a highly motivated staff team and the smooth running of a temporary accommodation. We are recruiting both a permanent Homeless Lead Officer for the Broom Lane and a 5 month Homeless Lead Officer for Etrop: Broom Lane is a mixed accommodation for high needs individuals experiencing homelessness. Staff support residents with accessing universal credit, bank accounts, drug and alcohol referrals, mental health referral, budgeting, getting formal ID, creating personalised support plans, listening to their concerns and needs and eventually moving them on to suitable medium to long term accommodation. The HLO will monitor, train and support staff to do this work, as well as assisting the Team Leader with the efficient running of the hostel to Manchester City Council aims and objectives. Broom Lane has 10 Accommodation Support Workers. Etrop Grange is Manchester City Council's rough sleeper accommodation, taking residents straight off the street. The 69 bed accommodation is fast paced with residents generally staying for up to 28 days as staff support clients transition to coming indoors and then look to move them on to other accommodation. As with Broom Lane, the HLO will monitor, train and support staff to do this work, as well as assisting the Team Leader with the efficient running of the hostel to Manchester City Council aims and objectives. Etrop has 14 Accommodation Support Workers and a cook. Both roles are highly rewarding, helping to manage motivated teams to achieve strong results for some of Manchester's most underprivileged people. Homeless Lead Officers receive an additional 6.7% on their wage as a flexibility payment for occasional weekend work and late finishes.
