<ul><li>LCC178_Independent_Living_Officer_2025</li></ul>The Role As an Independent Living Officer you will be responsible for the day to day running of a City Council Independent Living scheme, consisting of approx. 36 properties, communal grounds, communal laundry, communal lounges. You will be the key point of contact for tenants providing support and guidance on a wide range of housing and health/social related concerns both from the office on site and in tenants homes. Your role will also include offering advice and guidance, acting in the best interests of Lancaster City Council and ensuring our tenants feel heard, valued, and supported throughout the process. You will provide a housing management service for the tenants and support them to sustain their tenancies as required. You must be capable of demonstrating a sincere commitment to the support of older adults, possess exceptional organisational skills, be customer focused and have good social skills. You must have a calm, patient disposition with the ability to respond quickly and efficiently in an emergency situation, whilst under pressure. An understanding of community care and the ability to deal with any situation, as and when it arises, in an efficient and effective way, is essential. The Independent Living team is a large, dispersed team, when required, you will be expected to provide cover for any of our other Lancaster City Council independent living schemes within the area. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to always delivering outstanding customer service, a high level of attention to detail, excellent record keeping and proven ability to manage workload whist being a lone worker and work well in a dispersed team. This post is permanent. The hours of work are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm. You will be based at Lancaster Town Hall. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced clearance with the Disclosure and Barring Service. A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to work a transient role around the district, as they will have to travel between locations and travel within the Council's designated area. As a result, you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees driving licence data. Independent Living Officer

Band 7 Location: Barrow-In-Furness Vehicle &amp; Fuel card included + Excellent Serco Benefits Working hours: Full Time You are required to have a valid UK driving licence for this role. You will be provided with a company car. On behalf of the Home Office, Serco manages the Asylum Accommodation and Support Services Contract (AASC) in the North West of England. We focus on assisting individuals through the asylum system, ensuring that vulnerable asylum seekers have access to the support they need along with a high standard of accommodation. Our Housing Officers (HO's) are responsible for ensuring compliance with the AASC Contract, company policies, processes, and procedures through their liaison with Staff, Service Users, Landlords, External Agencies and Partners. You will be covering the Cumbria region and ensuring that all properties within the allocated portfolio are safe, habitable, fit for purpose and fully equipped in accordance with AASC Standards. There is a requirement to operate an Emergency On-Call system outside of normal working hours amongst all Housing Officers on a rota basis. This role is suited to someone with a solid work history dealing with people face to face and enjoys a demanding workload where you get to utilise your organisations skills whilst remaining calm under pressure and supporting our service users. Key duties: <ul><li>Complete a Monthly Inspection of all Properties within the allocated portfolio in accordance with the standard defined within the AASC Contract and property standards guide.</li><li>Manage on-boarding and withdrawal of properties within allocated portfolio in accordance with the Housing Officer Local Operating Procedures (LOP).</li><li>Report all property faults identified, correctly categorising them for appropriate response.</li><li>Complete all minor Property repairs within the scope enabled by training, experience and the toolkit and spares provided.</li><li>Administration of operational cash to enable the completion of tasks such as topping up of utility meters &amp; emergency cash payments.</li><li>Respond to customer complaints</li></ul>What you'll need to do the role Due to the nature of the role, Criminal Record Bureau checks are required (all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office). Whilst experience in a previous property related role is beneficial, this isn't a requirement, more importantly is your desire and enthusiasm to make a difference. You will be expected to take on a variety of tasks to support our service users and some may be challenging - dealing with anti-social behaviours, medical needs, management of child safeguarding needs etc. You will have strong communication skills and be confident managing conflict.
