Independent Living Support Worker - British Sign Language (training provided) Who We Are The Percy Hedley Foundation is one of the largest regional charities supporting people with a range of learning and physical needs. The Role We are looking to appoint a BSL (British Sign Language) Independent Living Support Worker. This is an exciting opportunity to help build our BSL ISL provision and provide excellent support. Due to the demands of the service, successful candidates must complete and pass British Sign Language Level 1. Training will be provided and consists of approximately three 10 week modules, 2 hours per week. The property is a 2 bedroom home located in a residential area in Newcastle, a short walk from the City Centre, St James Park, the Town Moore and Leazes Park as well as local transport services which opens up the whole of the North East to the people we support. There is also parking available. Our BSL Independent Supported Living scheme is a home for 2 young individuals who are leaving college and require support with everyday living tasks, cooking, cleaning, personal care, organising fun social activities, support to health appointments and to live as independently as possible. One young person that you will be supporting will have seizure activity which is generally nocturnal. This person can also have escalated behaviours and self-injurious behaviours. The other young person has a dysphagia need with an IDDSI Level 6 soft and bite sized diet. Full training will be given to support both individuals. You will need to be enthusiastic, friendly, enjoy your work and have a positive outlook on life and a real desire to help people achieve their goals and reach their full potential. A great team player, who is flexible, organised and has the skills to work with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the people we support receive the highest level of care is required. We handle both publicly funded (legal aid) and privately funded legal services in homelessness, disrepair, unlawful eviction, succession for tenants, neighbourhood problems, and possession proceedings. The department regularly represents clients at all court levels (including the appeal Courts) and is extensively experienced at handling all housing related judicial review matters at the High Court. The Role We are looking to appoint a new team of qualified BSL (British Sign Language) Independent Living Support Workers, this is an exciting opportunity to help build our BSL ISL Provision and provide excellent support. Due to the demands of the service, we are looking for candidates who hold a BSL qualification. The property is a 2 bedroom home located in a residential area in Newcastle, a short walk from the City Centre, St James Park, the Town Moore and Leazes Park as well as local transport services which opens up the whole of the North East to the people we support. There is also parking available. Our BSL Independent Supported Living scheme is a home for 2 young individuals who are leaving college and require support with everyday living tasks, cooking, cleaning, personal care, organising fun social activities, support to health appointments and to live as independently as possible. One young person that you will be supporting will have seizure activity which is generally nocturnal. This person can also have escalated behaviours and self-injurious behaviours. The other young person has a dysphagia need with an IDDSI Level 6 soft and bite sized diet. Full training will be given to support both individuals. You will need to be enthusiastic, friendly, enjoy your work and have a positive outlook on life and a real desire to help people achieve their goals and reach their full potential. A great team player, who is flexible, organised and has the skills to work with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the people we support receive the highest level of care is required.
