Are you an experienced Surveyor with a passion for enabling people to live safely and independently at home?

Do you thrive in a fast-paced, proactive environment where your decisions make a real impact on residents' lives? If so, this could be the perfect role for you.

About Us

Accessible Homes and TEC Hub is Bristol's cross-tenure, one-stop service that helps people access their home environment safely and confidently. We are a friendly, progressive, multidisciplinary team providing preventative and proactive solutions ranging from simple equipment provision to highly complex adaptations.

Our work is meaningful, varied, and deeply rewarding. We are looking for an Adaptations Surveyor who can bring technical confidence, fresh ideas, and strong customer focus to the team.

The Role

As an Adaptations Surveyor, you will design, specify, plan and oversee adaptations that enable residents to safely access and use the essential facilities within their homes. Much of our work in privately owned or privately rented homes is funded through the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG), so you will also be involved in assessing, specifying and delivering adaptations within the DFG framework.

We are seeking proactive individuals who can take ownership, problem-solve creatively, and manage a varied workload with confidence. The responsibilities of the role are wide-ranging, and while we can tailor your initial focus depending on your existing experience, the postholder will be expected to work across all aspects of the service as needed.

Whether your strengths currently lie in:
  • Repairing and maintaining existing installations, or
  • Managing contractor performance for level-access showers and straightforward adaptations, or
  • Delivering more complex adaptation design work
We will support you to play to your strengths at the outset, while developing the full skillset required for the wider Adaptations Surveyor role.

What We Are Looking For

You will bring:
  • A strong understanding of the built environment.
  • Experience in housing alterations, renovation, or maintenance.
  • The ability to think creatively and match solutions to identified needs.
  • Confidence in navigating legislation, funding requirements and technical guidance.
  • Excellent communication and a genuine commitment to customer care.
Above all, you will be proactive, organised, and motivated to deliver high-quality, person-centred outcomes.

Why Bristol City Council?

At Bristol City Council, we go the extra mile for our people. You will join a fast-moving, supportive organisation where you can use your skills, grow your career, and make a positive difference to Bristol's communities.

What We Can Offer You

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Develop your skills and work towards delivering complex home adaptations.
  • Join a supportive, multidisciplinary team united by a shared goal.
  • Be part of a service that genuinely changes lives every day.
  • Enjoy the full benefits of working for Bristol City Council, including:
  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • Flexible working and flexitime
  • Local Government Pension Scheme membership
  • Generous annual leave
  • Access to training, professional development, and wellbeing support
