Voids and Lettings Assistant Housing Officer

Grade 3 - £27,254 - £33,699
Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review
Working 36.5 hours per week
Birmingham City Council is looking to appoint dedicated and motivated Assistant Housing Officers to support the delivery of our Voids & Lettings service. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team working across Voids, Lettings, and providing wrap around support for Temporary Accommodation voids. Helping to minimise rent loss, improve turnaround times, and provide wraparound support to households moving in and out of council homes.
You will play an essential role in ensuring properties are let efficiently, safely and in line with policy. This includes working directly with applicants and tenants, coordinating property viewings, supporting sign-ups, and ensuring the right support is in place for successful and sustainable tenancies.

Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the efficient letting of council homes, including viewings, tenancy sign-ups.
- Assisting with moving out visits and property inspections to minimise void turnaround times.
- Liaising with contractors, repair teams and other services to ensure homes are re-let to the required standard within the KPI timeframes.
- Providing clear advice to housing applicants and tenants on lettings, housing options and related services.
- Identifying and supporting vulnerable applicants, ensuring safeguarding duties are upheld.
- Maintaining accurate case records using Housing IT Systems and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and performance targets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently and empathetically with tenants, applicants and partner agencies.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, able to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- A flexible, proactive approach - able to work across Voids, Lettings and Temporary Accommodation services depending on business need.
- Good IT skills and ability to maintain accurate records across multiple systems.
- Previous experience in housing, property services or customer service is desirable but not essential - training and support will be provided.
- A strong commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding and delivering excellent customer service.
- Full driving licence with business use (essential).
