We have handled many thousands of housing cases over the years, We have worked on some of the most complex and high profile cases faced by clients including the procedure to correctly ending a tenancy and recovering possession when a tenant passes away, the correct approach to Human Rights and Equality in tenancy management and the impact of debt relief orders and bankruptcy in possession claims for rent arrears.

The Role and Responsibilities

We are now seeking an ambitious Associate to join our Leeds office to help us build and develop our practice. The work is varied, challenging and rewarding. You will be given the opportunity to work with clients to support them and the communities they work for in an ever changing legal and regulatory landscape.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will be someone who can work closely with clients, provide first class practical advice and who is technically proficient in housing management work. Prior experience in running a high quality litigation caseload, anti-social behaviour, residential possession claims, civil injunctions and housing disrepair will be highly regarded.

Our Associates carry out the day-to-day conduct of housing cases under supervision and with the assistance of a paralegal. In summary, Associate caseholders:

  • Prepare the case plan at the outset of the case; Prepare advice on procedural or evidential issues; Correspond with the defence and/or claimant and clients;
  • Ensure that all factual evidence required to prove the allegations is obtained;
  • Supervise paralegals;
  • Instruct experts and identify if any amendments are necessary to the expert report; Prepare instructions to counsel (both our internal advocates and the external bar); Attend conferences with counsel when required;
  • Undertake advocacy in the county court and comply with court directions;
  • Liaise with the client and the defence/claimant in the run up to the hearing;
  • Supervise the preparation of the hearing bundle by the paralegal;
