Community Engagement Manager

Location: Liverpool

Salary: £30,440

Contract Type: Temporary

Position Type: Full Time

Closing Date: Monday 23 September 2024 - 12 Noon

Our people are at the heart of National Museums Liverpool. Colleagues from across the NML team make a difference every day, creating memorable experiences for everyone and challenging expectations. We pride ourselves on being a place for everyone, but we are always aiming higher, aspiring to be representative of the communities we serve. Through our people, we are building a culture which embeds trust, respect and inclusion and an organisation in which people are engaged and empowered to enable National Museums Liverpool to evolve. You could be just the right person to join us.

We currently have the post(s) of Community Engagement Manager available.

The Maritime Museum, located in the historic warehouses of Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, offers a gateway to explore the history of this ground-breaking building and Liverpool's waterfront. First opened in its current form in the Hartley Pavilion in 1986, the museum is a much-loved visitor destination known for catalysing Liverpool's cultural and economic regeneration.

We are undergoing a major capital transformation project to reimagine the Liverpool Waterfront that will raise the profile and position the Maritime Museum (and International Slavery Museum) within a network of local, national, and international relationships. We are strengthening our team for the next step of our journey.

Centuries as a city of arrival and departure have moulded Liverpool into a centre of migration, trade routes and global networks - mirrored through the museum's displays. From conflict at sea to shipwreck, maritime communities to the mental health of seafarers; the linkage between the stories told in the International Slavery Museum and Liverpool's historic maritime stories will be explored alongside contemporary perspectives.

This is a unique opportunity for someone with the passion, energy, and dedication to join our Learning & Participation team in a role that is critical to building relationships and engaging new community stakeholders with the Maritime Museum re-development, and wider Waterfront Transformation Project.

We want to work with communities so a more diverse range of people can create a vision to transform the Maritime Museum, and the International Slavery Museum generously supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund with thanks to National Lottery players.

To be successful in this role, you will have extensive community engagement experience with diverse communities. The role will be critical to supporting the development of collaborative relationships with local communities in Liverpool. The role will be part of a project team developing and delivering community led dialogue and collaborative events and activities as part of the redevelopment of the Maritime Museum and wider Waterfront Transformation Project.
