An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Communities Team as a Community Liaison Officer. This role will support some of our most disadvantaged and hard-to-reach groups, including migrant communities, veterans, socially isolated residents, asylum seekers and others who may face barriers in accessing services or integrating into local life.

About the role

You will work closely with individuals, families and partner organisations to build trust, strengthen community connections and create opportunities for people to thrive. Central to your role will be developing engagement forums, supporting collaborative community action, and enabling residents to link into local services, neighbourhood groups and volunteering opportunities.

This post will work alongside the Communities Team, Housing Team and accommodation providers to support people into housing and improve pathways into employment, learning and community life. Experience of working with migrant populations and knowledge of cultural diversity is desirable, alongside the ability to engage effectively with a range of agencies and communities.

You will have strong experience of working with disadvantaged or hard-to-engage communities, with an ability to build relationships, identify needs, and empower individuals to connect with the place they live. You will be confident facilitating multi-agency forums, providing culturally informed support, and enabling people to access statutory services, community initiatives and support networks.

You will bring excellent communication skills, strong partnership-working ability, and a flexible, person-centred approach to supporting individuals. Experience of community engagement, collaboration with professionals from services (e.g. NHS, DWP, Housing, VCFSE sector), and working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds is essential.

The successful candidate will have:
  • Proven experience working with disadvantaged or hard-to-reach groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective partnerships.
  • Good written and verbal communication, able to convey complex information clearly.
  • Knowledge of government policy related to housing, migration, safeguarding and community engagement.
  • An understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to keep accurate digital and paper records.
  • Flexibility to travel across the borough.
