PublishedPublished: Published today
About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join West Northamptonshire Council's Highways and Transport Service and play a key role in ensuring local communities are heard and represented in the delivery of highway services.

Working alongside Kier Highways, the Council's highways contractor, you will help ensure that local residents, parish councils and stakeholders receive a responsive, customer-focused service that delivers improvements to the highway network effectively and efficiently.

What will you be doing?

As a Community Liaison Officer, you will play a vital role in building positive relationships between the Council, local communities and key stakeholders, ensuring residents' concerns and priorities are reflected in the delivery of highway services across West Northamptonshire. You will engage directly with residents, councillors, parish councils and community groups, representing the Council at meetings and events, responding to enquiries and ensuring issues are effectively logged, monitored and resolved. More complex or high-profile matters will be escalated appropriately, while maintaining clear communication and a strong customer focus throughout.

The role will also involve supporting the delivery of the minor works programme, working closely with contractors to monitor progress, track performance and ensure works are completed to the required standards. You will oversee the recording and follow-up of defects, rework and rectification activities, while maintaining accurate financial records and monitoring budgets for allocated projects and tasks.

As part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of community liaison services by identifying opportunities to streamline processes and enhance ways of working. Working alongside colleagues and the Senior Community Liaison Officer, you will help implement service improvements, support the adoption of new approaches and contribute to the delivery of an efficient, responsive and community-focused highways service.

About you

The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of the statutory duties and responsibilities of English local authorities in relation to highways management and maintenance. You will appreciate the importance of delivering safe, efficient and customer-focused highway services, with an understanding of the legislative and regulatory frameworks that govern highway authorities and their obligations to residents, communities and stakeholders.

You will hold a degree in a relevant discipline, such as Civil Engineering, or possess equivalent knowledge and experience gained through a related field.

With a proactive approach and an interest in public service, you will be confident working with a range of stakeholders, building positive relationships and supporting the delivery of high-quality highway services that meet the needs of communities across West Northamptonshire.
