About the Role
Based in Adult Social Care & Safeguarding and reporting to the Deputy Principal Social Worker, the Consultant Social Worker - Housing & Homelessness will support social care practitioners and housing colleagues in tackling homelessness, rough sleeping, and unsustainable accommodation.
Working in close partnership with commissioning teams, borough and district councils-particularly Stafford and Cannock-the role will be instrumental in breaking down barriers and finding tailored solutions for adults who have needs under the Care Act.
This position requires a strengths-based approach, ensuring that social care practitioners are effectively supporting individuals through prevention, intervention, and long-term planning. The Consultant Social Worker will work directly with adults alongside social care teams, aiding in assessments and support planning, while also advising on strategic interventions to shape specialist services.
This role offers and element of remote working and the post holder will share their working time with Stafford borough council Housing teams and Adult Social Care teams.
The role is designated for a fixed term period of 12 months with scope to be extended.
Working hours will be Monday to Friday 8:30am- 5pm

Main Responsibility
In this role you'll:
- Provide professional oversight of social work practice in relation to Homelessness and Rough Sleeping by providing solution focused support to practitioners and partners.
- Provide training opportunities across teams, departments and partners relating to the areas of expertise.
- In line with duties and responsibilities under the care act, seek creative solutions for adults who are, or who are at risk of homelessness.
- Engage with other services provided by health and social care to ensure a holistic response that meets the needs and outcomes of adults within Staffordshire
- Advise and provide critical analysis on strategic commissioning objectives ensuring that they are compliant with the Care Act (2014) and in line with the Strength Based Approach.
- Represent Adult Social Care at relevant meetings, forum and committees at Stafford and Cannock District Council.
- Support development of relevant practice guidance and information available to practitioners and adults.
- Provide and support student practitioner placements and work in partnership with higher education and SWLA as required.
- Involvement with Regional and National networks where appropriate
You will:
- be a qualified social worker.
- Have a strong desire to help and support people to ensure their views and wishes are heard,
- Have significant experience in the field and experience of developing and delivering training.
- be motivated by the purpose of your role - to help and support others.
