Homelessness Support Worker
Location: Martin House & Hatfield Road, St Albans
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Salary: £26,853 per annum
Join our team at Martin House, a fast-paced 16-bed homelessness service where we support adults facing complex challenges such as trauma, mental health needs, substance misuse and barriers to independence. We work together to create a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where people feel supported, understood and empowered to move forward.
The Role
You will support 8 residents, working alongside another Support Worker who supports the other 8. Your work will include:
Lone working is a regular part of the role, so confidence and good decision-making are essential.
About You
You are resilient, proactive and calm under pressure, with the ability to build trust and maintain strong professional boundaries. You communicate well, work independently and collaboratively, stay organised and use IT confidently. Most importantly, you bring a compassionate, non-judgemental approach and a genuine desire to help people move toward stability and independence.
Shifts:
This role requires flexibility, as you will work a 3-week rolling rota that includes evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

- Providing direct, person-centred support and encouraging daily living skills
- Helping residents set goals and build confidence
- Responding calmly and professionally to challenging situations
- Completing accurate case notes, risk assessments and support plans
- Keeping the building safe with regular checks and reporting repairs
- Managing a busy caseload and maintaining key compliance tasks

- Early shifts: 7am-3pm or 9am-5pm
- Late shifts: 2pm-10pm
- Weekend shifts: 1 in every 3 weekends (10am-6pm)
