Location: Hybrid - Work from home and visit sites across the Harrogate, Richmondshire, and Selby area.

The Role
As a Former Tenant Arrears officer, you will play a pivotal role in helping tenants move forward by managing former tenant accounts, negotiating payment arrangements, and ensuring the financial sustainability of our housing services. You will be working within a supportive team environment, whilst also taking ownership of your own caseload and contributing to the overall success of our income management strategy.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Managing and updating former tenant accounts and ensuring accurate records of all collection and recovery actions.
- Negotiating payment plans based on individual circumstances, aiming to prevent further debt and achieve long-term debt resolution.
- Maximising the uptake of welfare benefits, housing benefits, and discretionary housing payments to support tenants in meeting their debt obligations.
- Tracing former tenants who have moved without forwarding addresses and pursuing debt recovery efforts.
- Working closely with applicants reapplying for council housing, ensuring they are aware of and addressing any past arrears.
- Collating data for bad debt provisions when arrears become unrecoverable, ensuring compliance with financial protocols.
- Attending court hearings when required to recover debts and enforce County Court Judgments (CCJs).
What We're Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
- Excellent Communication Skills: The ability to build strong relationships with tenants, listen effectively, and handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
- Experience in Debt Recovery & Income Collection: A solid understanding of housing legislation, court protocols, and the tools available for debt recovery.
- Strong Organisational Skills: The ability to manage your caseload efficiently, prioritise tasks, and meet your collection targets.
- Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using various software applications and systems to update records and track progress.
- Team-Oriented: While you will manage your own caseload, you will work collaboratively within the wider Income Services team to share knowledge and best practices.
