About the Post:

One of the main functions of the Housing Options Team is the the prevention of homelessness and tenancy sustainment. Key areas of work for the team include:

• Promoting an early intervention and prevention service to reduce homelessness and rough sleeping

• Supporting people to stay in their own home, move in a managed way or resettle after a period of instability

• Working closely with partners to address the underlying causes of homelessness and address wider support needs

This post is sat within the wider homelessness team and will carry a caseload of clients supporting them on a personalised basis to prevent homelessness, sustain tenancies or resettle into new accommodation. The work is predominately community based visiting and assessing needs, giving advice and support, working with tenants and landlords as well as other key partners

To be successful you will be highly motivated, organised, flexible and able to work in a pressurised environment, using your experience and initiative to make decisions. You will require a multi-agency approach to identifying and addressing support needs, so experience of teamwork and partnership working is vital. The focus will be on equipping people with the skills, knowledge and coping strategies to ensure their own well-being, encourage independent living and create sustainable tenancies.

The role will involve working with a range of customers, some of who are vulnerable, complex and in crisis. To do this effectively you will have experience of identifying risk and developing support plans, using a range of appropriate questioning techniques and listening skills, while demonstrating empathy and building trust and rapport. You will also have excellent communication and time management skills, as well as experience of supporting a range of vulnerable customers.

A flexible approach to working including elements of home visiting and lone working will be required, as well as a level 2 qualification in Maths and English
