Your role:
This an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to join a forward-thinking Housing Standards Team and be part of the journey as we look to the next chapter. You will work as part of a proactive and innovative team who are responsible for regulating the standard of the private sector housing stock within the Borough, and ensuring the housing stock makes a significant positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of our residents.
You will also help increase the profile of the empty homes work already being undertaken and play a significant role in reducing the number of long-term empty homes in the Borough.
You will assist the team in the cyclical inspection of HMO properties and assist in the licencing process.
The role will require you to provide excellent customer care to a wide range of customers and stakeholders - from private tenants to landlords, letting agents and local businesses/developers.
You will contribute to the ongoing enforcement of rogue landlords and disrupting the criminal use of property by applying innovative ways of working and dealing with a wide range of legislation.
About you
You will ideally have good experience of working within a busy Housing Standards team or similar regulatory services with an in depth knowledge of the Housing Act and other relevant legislation.
You will have a good knowledge of building enforcement cases and gathering evidence in line with both the Police and Criminal Evidence Act as well as the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act.
You will be self-motivated, driven, with the ability to work both as part of a team and operate on your initiative. You will be experienced in dealing with people and be able to find resolutions to difficult and challenging situations. You will have a desire to work with our tenants to promote safety within their properties.
You will have experience in providing excellent collaborative partnerships working with internal and external organisations.
