About The Role

Are you enthusiastic about creating a positive influence in your community? Do you have strong negotiating abilities and a thorough grasp of housing and property management within a local authority, housing association or a similar organisation? If so, we have an exciting opening within Dorset Council's Housing Supply team in the Housing Services Directorate. The team has recently undergone radical changes to meet service demands, and we're seeking an organised, and professional, individual to join the Housing Supply team working across Dorset.

As a Housing Supply Officer, your role will involve identifying and acquiring suitable accommodation to lease using Dorset Council's leasing scheme and securing private rented properties. You will carry out lease/management agreement verifications on a periodic basis ensuring rent reviews and renewals are carried out as per the agreements. You will need to negotiate with various landlords using Dorset Council's landlord offers and incentive packages.
    • You will reach out to different lettings and estate agents across Dorset.
    • You will need to be prepared to support and assure landlords in making sure health and safety and compliance is up to date, as well as making sure the property is to a lettable standard.
    • You may also be required to assist and guiding landlords on setting up tenancy agreements.
    • You will work closely with Housing Officers and our Legal Team as well as other key stakeholders within Dorset Council and externally.
    • The role predominately will be a property sourcing role in the private sector but depending on future project you may be required to purchase new acquisition, which is a very involved and complex process.
    • You will manage an effective, customer focused service that delivers on Dorset Councils priorities and makes a positive impact in the community.
You will develop and maintain effective partnership and relationships with colleagues, partners, external agencies and key stakeholders to influence and achieve business priorities.

The post will Continually shaping the service to ensure and excellent front-line service to customers, meeting service level agreements and constantly reviewing the service to ensure it meets the needs of both our partners and members of the public.

Your work with us will be wide ranging and rewarding, from strategic projects to your own operational caseload.

You will:
    • have a deep understanding of housing and property management
    • have excellent communications, interpersonal and negotiation skills
    • have organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and delegate effectively
    • have an understanding of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985

This is a full time role at 37 hours per week.

This role is fixed term until 31 st March 2026.

This post requires significant travel. You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.
