Housing Support Assistant
Derwent Lodge is Supported Accommodation for mixed age groups who come from diverse backgrounds. They face challenges such as addiction, mental health difficulties, and the impacts of trauma. Part of this role includes working within an Ofsted-registered provision for looked-after children, where high standards of safeguarding, and professional practice are essential.
About the Role
Working on a varied two-week rota which will include evenings and weekends is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting difference.
As a Support Assistant, you will play a key role in providing a safe, stable, and developing environment for residents, including children and young people in care. You will support their development, promote positive outcomes, and contribute to an environment that meets Ofsted regulatory standards and reflects best practice in safeguarding.
Working closely with Support Officers and a wider multidisciplinary team, you will help deliver structured activities, individual support plans, and interventions that promote independence, resilience, and emotional wellbeing. You will also ensure accurate record-keeping and full compliance with safeguarding, risk management, and regulatory requirements.

- Support residents, including looked-after children, to develop essential life and social skills
- Contribute to the day-to-day running of an Ofsted-regulated service, ensuring compliance with Children's Homes Regulations and quality standards
- Provide consistent emotional and practical support to individuals, particularly those who have experienced trauma
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to implement and review person-centred support plans
- Promote independence, positive behaviour, and engagement in education, activities, and daily living
- Safeguard residents by following all policies, procedures, and reporting requirements
- Maintain clear, accurate, and timely records in line with Ofsted expectations and organisational standards
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and nurturing environment that supports stability and growth
- We are looking for individuals who are:
- Resilient and adaptable, able to respond effectively to the needs of vulnerable adults and children
- Calm under pressure, with the ability to manage challenging situations confidently and professionally
- Positive and consistent, providing reliable support and building trusting relationships
- Motivated, with a strong commitment to improving outcomes for residents and young people in care
- Team-focused, able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment
- Experienced (desirable) in supporting individuals with trauma, mental health needs, addiction, or looked-after children within regulated services.
