Housing Support Officer - St Mary's

The Role - Housing Support Officer

Our St Mary's Hostel in Bangor is a self-referral hostel providing support and accommodation to 13 homeless people, creating support plans based on individual needs whilst helping them to find somewhere more permanent to live. You will be committed to putting the customer at the heart of everything you do by contributing towards the delivery of a person-centred trauma informed support in a 24-hr homeless hostel. This will involve:
  • Supporting service users with mental health and wellbeing, by encouraging healthy activities and lifestyles, and signposting to services
  • Assisting with claims for housing and associated benefits to support residents' financial stability
  • Organising and managing a range of engaging activities to promote social inclusion
  • Playing a hands-on role in responding to incidents, completing room checks and ensuring properties are maintained
  • Maintaining accurate service user records and files
  • Performing regular security and fire safety checks
The Package
  • Permanent contract
  • Salary of £25,107 per annum
  • 35 hours per week
  • Minimum of 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

Our Requirements - Housing Support Officer
  • Either have the ability to hold at least basic conversations in Welsh (although you may struggle to keep up fully) or be currently learning / willing to learn Welsh
  • Experience working in a client centred environment such as housing, care or similar (e.g., supporting individuals in reporting maintenance issues, making healthcare appointments, pursuing hobbies, securing training and employment, etc.) for individuals suffering or recovering from mental illness.
  • Experience of supporting people to make benefit claims.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Hard working, with a positive 'can do attitude'.
  • At least have basic IT skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Although not essential, experience of general housing management gained in either public or private sector, as well as experience providing engagement / social inclusion activities would be desirable.

Candidates must hold a valid UK driving licence and have a vehicle available for work purposes.
