Part Time Housing Support Worker - 16 hours per week on a rota covering weekday evenings and weekends.

Our Pendinas Hostel in Bangor provides temporary supported housing accommodation to vulnerable people, creating support plans based on individual needs whilst helping them to find somewhere more permanent to live.

The Role - Housing Support Worker

Working at Pendinas Hostel in Bangor, you'll support people with their housing needs and life skills in a person-centred, trauma informed way and contribute to the safe running of the hostel. This will involve:

  • Supporting service users with mental health and wellbeing, by encouraging healthy activities and lifestyles, and signposting to services
  • Assisting with claims for housing and associated benefits to support residents' financial stability
  • Organising and managing a range of engaging activities to promote social inclusion
  • Playing a hands-on role in responding to incidents, completing room checks and ensuring properties are maintained
  • Maintaining accurate service user records and files
  • Performing regular security and fire safety checks
  • In the absence of the Housing Support Officer (Pendinas), during out of hours, deputising the support of care leavers in 277 projects
You'll be working 16 hours per week on a 6 week rota, to include evenings and weekends. Shifts are as follows:

  • Week 1 - Monday - Friday - 17:30 - 21:30
  • Week 2 - Saturday & Sunday - 13:00 - 21:00
  • Week 3 - Saturday & Sunday - 08:00 - 16:00
  • Week 4 - Monday - Friday - 17:30 - 21:30
  • Week 5 - Saturday & Sunday - 13:00 - 21:00
  • Week 6 - Saturday & Sunday - 08:00 - 16:00
Our Requirements - Housing Support Worker

  • Either have the ability to hold at least basic conversations in Welsh (although you may struggle to keep up fully) or be currently learning / willing to learn Welsh
  • Experience working in a client centred environment such as housing, care or similar (e.g., supporting individuals in reporting maintenance issues, making healthcare appointments, pursuing hobbies, securing training and employment, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the support needs of vulnerable people
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Hard working, with a positive 'can do attitude'
  • At least have basic IT skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Although not essential, an awareness of issues and support needs connected to homelessness would be highly advantageous. As would an awareness of specialist agencies, including drug, alcohol and mental health services.

Candidates must hold a valid UK driving licence and have a vehicle available for work purposes.
