Your new role

Help older people live independently, safely and confidently in the place they call home.

At Abri, we believe that a home is more than just four walls. It's a place where people should feel safe, connected and able to live life on their own terms. That's why we're excited to announce we're looking for a dedicated and compassionate Independent Living Partner to support customers aged 55+ living within our Southampton (Swaythling) Independent Living scheme.

This is a unique opportunity to combine housing management expertise with a customer-first approach, helping older people maintain their independence while creating a thriving, welcoming community within the scheme.

No two days will be the same. One day you might be helping a new customer settle into their home, the next advising them on tenancy-related matters, testing fire and security alarms or bringing residents together through community events and activities.

Most importantly, you'll make a genuine difference to people's lives every day.

What you'll be doing

As an Independent Living Partner, you'll be responsible for delivering a high-quality housing and wellbeing service across our Independent Living schemes. You'll:
  • Be the first point of contact for customers, providing tenancy, leasehold and housing management support.
  • Build trusted relationships through regular wellbeing contacts, helping customers maintain their independence and access appropriate support when needed.
  • Manage customer journeys from viewings and sign-ups through to tenancy sustainment and ongoing support.
  • Carry out customer inductions, manage allocations and support the effective management of void properties.
  • Respond to safeguarding concerns, wellbeing issues and emergency situations, working closely with Adult Social Care, health professionals and partner agencies.
  • Complete health and safety, fire safety and compliance checks, ensuring our schemes remain safe, welcoming and well maintained.
  • Monitor contractors and service providers, taking ownership of issues through to successful resolution.
  • Work proactively to address low-level anti-social behaviour and support customers to understand and fulfil their tenancy responsibilities.
  • Encourage customer involvement and create opportunities for residents to shape services and decisions that affect their communities.
  • Develop and deliver local engagement activities that promote wellbeing, reduce isolation and foster a strong sense of belonging.
What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting older people and understands the important role that housing can play in helping people live happy, healthy and independent lives.

You'll bring:
  • Experience of delivering excellent customer service within housing, independent living, health, social care, support services or a community-based environment.
  • Knowledge of housing management, including areas such as tenancy management, allocations, anti-social behaviour, repairs and compliance.
  • An understanding of the challenges that older and potentially vulnerable customers may face, together with the ability to provide support that empowers rather than creates dependency.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work effectively with customers, families, colleagues and external agencies.
  • Experience of carrying out risk assessments and making sound decisions to support customer safety and wellbeing.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy and varied role.
  • Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • A proactive, empathetic and solutions-focused approach with a genuine passion for helping people.
As this role requires occasional travel to our offices and to other schemes, a full driving license and your own transport will be essential. As you'll be working with potentially vulnerable customers, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a DBS check too.

If you'd love the opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of those in our Independent Living schemes, we'd love to hear from you!

About you

We've all got different backgrounds, strengths and experiences. But we share the same values. It's these shared values that bring us together as one team.

Our colleagues embrace these every day. Be the difference to our customers and colleagues, always curious and look for better solutions, achieve together by working in partnership with others, own it openly through working with others in an open and honest way, and finally embrace possibility and see changes and challenges as welcomed opportunities.

We also expect our colleagues to share Abri's commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults.

If you share our values and want to make a real difference in the world, you're on to a winner and we'd love to hear from you!

Be yourself

We're committed to promoting an inclusive culture. We welcome and respect the individual differences, life experiences and knowledge that all our colleagues bring into the workplace, and we value their contribution to our amazing company. Everyone is different, everyone is unique.

Customer Positive

We welcome applications from Abri customers and we provide an opportunity for applicants to let us know if they are a customer as part of the application process. When customers meet the essential criteria of the role, we will commit to interview at least two customers as part of our Customer Positive scheme.

Flexible working

We recognise the benefits flexible working can bring and we aim to support colleagues who need to work flexibly wherever we can, provided the needs of both Abri and the colleague can be met. Please feel free to let us know about any flexibility you might need when applying for this role. We can't promise to give you exactly what you want, but we do promise to consider it fully.

To our agency friends

We already have a number of carefully selected agency partners who know our business well and who support our in-house recruitment team during exceptionally busy periods. We're not looking to add to our preferred supplier list right now but if you'd like to be considered at a future date please don't hesitate to register on our procurement portal.
