About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our Children Looked After Team in the London Borough of Islington. This role is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated social work professional who is committed to improving outcomes for looked-after children. As an IRO, you will play a vital role in ensuring that children and young people in care receive the best possible support, advocacy, and protection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Chair reviews for children in care, ensuring that each child's voice is heard and that their needs and wishes are central to the planning process.
- Monitor and review care plans, working closely with social workers, foster carers, and other professionals to ensure that all actions are carried out in a timely and effective manner.
- Advocate for children and young people, ensuring their best interests are always represented and promoting stability in placements.
- Challenge and address any shortfalls in practice, escalating issues as needed to ensure high standards of care and safeguarding.
- Provide quality assurance and oversight, making sure that each child's case is compliant with statutory requirements and best practices.
- Produce high-quality reports that reflect the outcomes of reviews, highlighting key issues and follow-up actions.
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
- Extensive post-qualifying experience, ideally within children's social care, and a deep understanding of issues affecting looked-after children.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and guidance, including the Children Act 1989 and the Care Planning Regulations.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and advocacy skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and hold professionals accountable.
- A commitment to promoting positive change and improving outcomes for children in care.
