We are seeking a passionate and proactive Learning & Development Officer to support the promotion and development of apprenticeships, graduate programmes and work placements at Sheffield City Council.

This role is integral to our wider Talent attraction strategy and will involve building strong relationships both internally and externally within the community to promote the benefits of working for the Council. The ideal candidate will require strong organisational and communication skills.

As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for securing high-quality work experience placements, supporting our apprenticeship programmes, and helping to create pathways for diverse talent to thrive through supported internships and other talent initiatives.

You will also represent Sheffield City Council at community fairs and recruitment events to showcase our range of opportunities and the fantastic benefits we offer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support apprenticeships, graduate programmes, and paid work placements across the Council.
  • Develop and secure work experience placements and supported internships in collaboration with local schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Actively engage with the local community by attending careers fairs, recruitment events, and other outreach activities to raise awareness of working at Sheffield City Council including our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to build relationships internally and externally with stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of all talent attraction initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and teams on best practices for nurturing and developing apprentices.
  • Contribute to the wider talent attraction strategy, including exploring new initiatives to attract a diverse pool of candidates.
  • Experience in organising and attending events to promote opportunities and build networks.
  • Facilitate inductions onto a range of Talent programmes, such as apprenticeships, traineeships, supported internships and graduate programmes, in conjunction with workplace managers and learning providers.

If appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
