About Us:
Active Prospects is an award-winning charity which supports around 400 people each year in the south-east who have a learning disability, mental health need or are autistic. This year we were proud to win Employer of the Year at the National Learning Disability & Autism Awards.

We are looking for a Senior Housing Officer to work in conjunction with, and to support the Property and Maintenance team.

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused housing management services
  • Manage complex tenancy and estate issues and support continuous service improvements across the organisation
  • Provide an effective, efficient, responsive service to the people we support, who require housing-related support to remain in their home and/or continue with their tenancy
  • Liaise with external agencies, legal representatives, and local authorities
  • Develop and implement strategies, policies, procedures and service improvements within tenancy support
  • Excellent knowledge of housing legalisation and ability to resolve conflict
  • Assist the maintenance team as necessary to ensure responsive repairs and other maintenance issues are dealt with as required
Responsibilities will also include:
  • Support the people we support to set up and maintain a home and tenancy
  • Undertake housing assessments, record meetings and take detailed support notes during support visits
  • Assist the people we support to manage their finances and welfare benefit claims, particularly housing benefit, universal credit, disability benefits and DLA/PIP
  • Advise people we support on access to local community organisations, resources, activities and employment opportunities
  • Support with maintaining a safe home environment for the people we support and assist in reporting maintenance issues and concerns
  • Assist and support the people we support to meet rent and service charges obligations to landlords
  • Organise monthly tenancy meetings in liaison with service managers
  • Authorise legal action for rent arrears and represent the association in court where required
  • Administer the provision of comprehensive information to the people we support in relation to service charges, annual uplifts of rent and contracts
  • Ensure communal areas of Active Prospects buildings are managed to a high standard by liaising with the Maintenance team
  • Undertake weekly estate inspections with tenants, ensuring the reporting of any repairs
  • Investigate incidents of nuisance and anti-social behaviour, keeping relevant parties informed and maintaining accurate records
  • Work with the Director of Property and external consultants on the Environment policy
  • Ensure regular health and safety checks in properties to ensure tenancy agreements are upheld and properties remain safe and secure
The successful candidate will have the following Knowledge, Training & Experience:
  • Experience of working as a Housing Officer within a community setting, ideally with tenants that require additional support
  • Excellent knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements within Housing Support, evictions, housing and other welfare benefit claims
  • Qualified or part qualified in a relevant professional housing qualification
  • Experience leading and supporting initiatives that help tenants access benefits and financial help
  • Have a passion for involving people we support in every aspect of their service
  • Have the ability to work flexible hours including some weekends, evenings and conduct night audits if required
  • Own a Full Driving Licence and be able to use own vehicle for business use
