Job description
Full Time, Fixed Term - 6 months
Location: Bristol Youth MAPS, Nelson Street (Bristol City Centre)

Fixed term, full time position for 6 months from start date. We will be happy to speak to external applicants about any permanent social work contracts that may be available in conjunction with starting in this role.

Pay scale: BG11 - BG13 dependent upon experience / current Bristol Grade (£38,626 - £48,710)

Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people in Bristol?

We are looking for a talented and motivated social worker (must be registered with Social Work England) to work within our Youth Homelessness Hub (youth maps) with young people aged 16-17 who are affected by or at risk of homelessness.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and developing service at a time when your passion and expertise can make a difference to how we shape services for young people. Within this role, you will work with an existing youth homelessness social worker to provide services and safe pathways for potentially homeless young people.

The key aims of the role are:
  • To provide joint assessment (with housing advisors within the hub) for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, at the earliest possible time.
  • To work collaboratively with young people and their families to prevent homelessness wherever possible, using strengths based, solution focussed social work. This may include delivery of mediation, family stability plans and family network meetings to find stable and safe solutions for young people.
  • To recommend young people for our youth housing pathway only when all safe options at home and within the network have been exhausted.
  • To support young people to move into independence, under either part 7 (housing duties) or section 20 (as children in care to the local authority).
  • To remain the allocated social worker for Children in Care due to homelessness until transfer to our 16+ Children in Care team.
  • To deliver reunification planning and work for families, moving young people out of care / accommodation at the earliest possible time.
You will have an opportunity to practice innovative and creative social work with a small caseload of young people and their families, with a focus on prevention and reunification.

You will be based within a multi-disciplinary team of housing advisors, social workers and third sector providers at a time when we are focussing resource on developing our services for young people affected by housing instability.

We are looking for someone who has:
  • The skills to work collaboratively with families in crisis, de-escalating situations and finding safe solutions for young people.
  • The skills and attitude to undertake responsive duty visits to families where youth homelessness is a risk.
  • The ability to work with looked after young people until a minimum of first review.
  • The desire to support young people through difficult transitions to adulthood, and to make a positive difference to their life chances.

For employees who are currently on a fixed term contract with Bristol City Council, the secondment must not extend beyond the end of the fixed term period to ensure there is a substantive post to return to.
