Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent's diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

The Strategic Housing Officer plays a big part in helping Brent make the most of its affordable housing, especially when it comes to supporting residents to downsize and free up larger family homes.

You'll also work closely with external partners, especially Registered Providers, to keep things running smoothly - from tracking upcoming and available homes to unblocking issues that slow down lettings, and making sure Nomination Agreements are in place, up to date, and being followed. Good-quality data management sits at the heart of this work, so you'll collaborate with colleagues across allocations, housing management, homelessness and planning to build a full, accurate picture of current and future housing availability.

Overall, this role plays a key part in making Brent's affordable housing work smarter. By supporting residents to downsize, strengthening partnerships with Registered Providers, and providing support to keep housing related processes running smoothly, the Strategic Housing Officer helps unlock much-needed family homes.

The Person

For this role we need someone who can represent the service professionally - whether that's working closely with Registered Providers to unblock issues and keep schemes moving, or contributing confidently in meetings, workshops and partnership forums.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding how affordable housing works and impacts our residents. You'll know how allocations, lettings, downsizing, successions and homelessness pressures all connect, and how they shape the bigger picture of stock maximisation.

Strong data skills are essential. You'll be confident collecting, cleansing and interpreting complex datasets, and turning information into clear actions that support smarter use of the borough's homes.

The post holder will be comfortable improving processes and creating practical guidance that helps everyone work better.

If you're someone who can blend strategic thinking with practical problem-solving, and you're passionate about helping residents move into the right homes while freeing up much-needed family housing, we'd love to hear from you.

Why join us?

We know people achieve their best when they feed valued. At Brent, you'll benefit from:
  • Up to 33 days annual leave (depending on length of service) plus bank holidays
  • Excellent pension with generous employer contributions (LGPS)
  • Hybrid and flexible working options available for most roles
  • Supportive family-friendly policies for parent, guardians, and carers
  • Health and wellbeing support, including access to eye test support and a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
  • Financial support such as education sessions, childcare deposit loans, and season ticket loans
  • Travel perks including affordable parking nearby, a Cycle to Work scheme, and great onsite facilities
  • Learning and development opportunities to help you grow your career
  • Access to My Brent Rewards with exclusive discounts on shopping, travel, leisure, and entertainment
Closing date: Sunday 5 April 2026 (23:59)
