The opportunity has arisen for a Technical Officers to join the multi-disciplinary Royal Greenwich Disability & Home Improvement Team, providing services to the homes of Greenwich residents across all tenures. With a focus on supporting older and vulnerable borough residents to live independently in their own homes by adapting or improving their environment.

This rewarding job will suit applicants who have a strong commitment to the delivery of high-quality services to vulnerable people and an understanding of housing problems faced by older people and those with disabilities.

You will need to have a HND or equivalent qualification in a building or housing standards related subject with relevant experience or have extensive relevant experience in this area of work.

The successful candidate will have a detailed knowledge and understanding of domestic construction and will be able to identify defects in domestic dwellings and appropriate remedies. Be able to design and specify simple disabled adaptations and schedules of repair work. Carry out the duties of a contract administrator, including financial control of contracts. An understanding of and ability to apply all relevant legislation is also essential.

It is preferable that you are able to
  • provide technical support on housing standards, home improvements and be HHSRS competent.
  • inspect temporary accommodation, used by the Council to ensure the properties are safe to occupy.
  • identify hazards and produce concise accurate reports detailing defects/hazards and the action required to rectify.
  • support on empty property and home improvement works as necessary.
