Location: Malton (The role will be based in Malton but there will also be a requirement to provide support to manage temporary accommodation placements in the Selby locality).

Weekend Working: No

We are looking for a Temporary Accommodation Officer to join our Housing Needs Service to provide the management of the council's owned temporary accommodation.

The role:

As a Temporary Accommodation Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the council's temporary accommodation for homeless households. This will require responding to incidents within the accommodation and ensuring residents have access to support officers whilst residing in temporary accommodation.

You will ensure all relevant paperwork is completed at sign up, fully explaining the conditions of occupancy to the resident and will be responsible for organising the collection of temporary accommodation charges from residents in the council's temporary accommodation.

You will also be responsible for the safety and security of the council's own temporary accommodation, ensuring compliance with the council's health & safety policies and procedures, whilst ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of the council's own temporary accommodation to a satisfactory standard and all repair work is reported promptly.

You will also carry out housing management functions for the temporary accommodation, arranging the inspection of void properties from vacation, arranging clearance, gas and electrical safety checks, repairs and re-letting, to ensure void periods and income loss are minimised.

What you will bring:

This is a very challenging role that requires someone who is resilient, has empathy and patience to deal with clients in difficult situations.

You will also have:

  • A good working knowledge and understanding of the Homeless Reduction Act 2017
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • IT literacy
  • Safeguarding awareness
  • Excellent time management with the focus on prioritising own workload
  • Ability to use your own initiative and as a team member.
  • A full, current UK drivers licence
