About The Role
Are you an experienced surveyor, possibly with a background in Social Housing? A fantastic opportunity has arisen for the right person to become a vital member of Fareham Housing and join a dedicated team of surveying professionals.
Reporting to the Property Improvement Team Leader (Housing), you will lead on all aspects of repairs, maintenance and improvements to Council owned homes which are void, providing support to a busy team of building professionals, and undertaking contract management responsibilities for those repair works.
You will work as part of Fareham Housing to inspect and survey the Council's housing stock and arrange building works as and when required. You will ensure that properties are maintained and improved to the required standards within authorised budgets and to the void standard guidance. Dependant on experience your will either provide a supporting role managing simple void works projects independently or in an established position, take the leading role.
As well as inspecting Council houses and garages to specify remedial, modernisation and improvement works, you will be responsible for initiating orders for work ensuring that they are carried out within statutory requirements.
You will be assessing and agreeing final account claims from the term contractor for accuracy against the schedule of work as well as reviewing claims for variation orders and issue in line with contract terms.
You will be expected to meet a range of customers, contractors and members of the public providing advice and technical guidance on a wide range of issues.
It is vital that Fareham Housing minimises Void periods in its properties as much as possible and, as Fareham Housing's Void Surveyor, you will use your knowledge and experience to inform meetings chaired by the Housing department regarding priority requests and the scheduling of works.
You will also be expected to produce reports to Council and committees as well as provide information and advice to Senior Managers, Directors and Elected Members as required.
About You
We are looking for somebody who has an excellent knowledge of all building trades, building construction and maintenance supported with a relevant qualification at least to HNC level.
As a front facing employee it is vital that you are completely customer focussed with good influencing skills, able to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and excellent influencing skills when required.
You will be very much part of a team, but you will also need to be able to work using your own initiative, having to be able to think clearly under pressure, balancing conflicting priorities as they occur.
You should be politically aware with the confidence and skills to be able to deal with customers, colleagues and elected members in a helpful and polite manner.
In addition to being able to demonstrate excellent verbal skills, due to the role requiring you to write reports and update the Housing Management system, you should also have excellent written communication and ICT skills.
You will need to have a full driving licence but above all, we expect our employees to have a sense of pride and the determination to do a good job.
