50 Years of the Wallich - Making Homelessness History
A message from Sian Aldridge, Chief Executive

As The Wallich marks its 50th anniversary, we have an important opportunity to reflect on our history while looking firmly to the future. For five decades, we have stood alongside people experiencing homelessness across Wales, challenging injustice, amplifying voices and working to create lasting change.

This role is central to capturing that legacy. By bringing together the experiences, memories and materials that have shaped our organisation and the wider story of homelessness in Wales, this project will help ensure that voices too often overlooked are heard, valued and preserved for generations to come.

We are looking for an experienced heritage professional and skilled project leader who can turn an ambitious vision into an inclusive, compelling and deliverable programme. You will be collaborative and curious, able to build trusted relationships across communities and sectors, and committed to ensuring that people with lived experience are recognised as authors and custodians of their own histories.

If you share our belief that heritage can challenge perceptions, strengthen understanding and inspire change, we would be delighted to hear from you. This is a rare opportunity to help shape a nationally significant collection and exhibition, and to create a lasting legacy as The Wallich enters its next 50 years.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday 09:00-17:00 with flexibility

Contract: Fixed term until December 2027 with possibility of extension until 2029

Location: Flexible, including home working

Help create Wales's first national collection dedicated to the heritage of homelessness.

For 50 years, The Wallich has stood alongside people experiencing homelessness. This landmark project will bring together voices, memories and materials that might otherwise be lost-and ensure that people with lived experience are recognised as authors and custodians of this important part of Wales's history.

Working with communities across Wales, alongside pioneering campaigners, academics and heritage specialists, we will uncover and preserve oral histories, photographs, documents and artefacts. Together, these will tell an honest and powerful story of how homelessness has changed over the past five decades-and what still needs to change to make homelessness history.

At the heart of the project will be a bilingual multimedia exhibition shaped through peer research, collective storytelling and creative expression. It will challenge perceptions, widen access to heritage and inspire new conversations about homelessness. The collection will create a lasting national legacy, ensuring these experiences inform public understanding, professional practice and change for generations to come.

Impact You will Make

This is an opportunity to shape a nationally significant heritage project from the ground up.

Supported by a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, you will lead the development of The Wallich's 50-Year Heritage Project and help turn an ambitious vision into a compelling, deliverable programme. Your work will be central to securing delivery phase funding and creating a lasting legacy for Wales.

You will bring together people with lived experience, universities, heritage organisations, community groups and colleagues across The Wallich. You will coordinate research and engagement, develop strong partnerships and ensure that every stage of the project is inclusive, ambitious and delivered to a high standard.

This is more than a project management role. You will help uncover stories that have rarely been heard, create opportunities for people to tell their own histories and influence how homelessness is understood in Wales. The foundations you build will shape a national collection, a public exhibition and learning that can inform The Wallich's work-and wider conversations about homelessness-for the next 50 years.

If you are an experienced heritage professional who combines skilled project leadership with curiosity, collaboration and a commitment to inclusive storytelling, this is your opportunity to create something genuinely groundbreaking.
