ABOUT THE ROLE There is 1 permanent role for Housing Support Officer, this is Monday - Friday 37 hrs (9am-5pm) This role requires someone who drives and has access to their own vehicle. Solihull Integrated Addiction Service (SIAS) is a partnership between four organisations jointly responsible for the delivery of the drug, alcohol, homelessness and gambling services, in the Borough of Solihull. We offer services for adults who use or are affected by substance use, homelessness and gambling. Your challenge? As a Floating Housing Support Practitioner you will be working with clients who are vulnerably housed or homeless, working in clients' homes and various locations to support clients in addressing their substance needs, finding accommodation and being able to live independently. The service covers support for clients who are homeless and at risk of becoming homeless, as well as a more structured longer term floating support service to enable clients to maintain their tenancies. You will understand the barriers clients face to accessing services, and the impact substance use has on sustaining accommodation. The Vacancy Full time, 37 hours a week. Working a mix of early (8am to 4pm) and late (2pm to 9.30pm) shifts, and long days (9am to 9pm) every other Saturday and Sunday. £23,775 progressing to £25,027 Portsmouth Young People Services provides supported accommodation for up to 83 young people between the age of 16 and 25, including care leavers and looked after children. The service operates across three locations, each is tailored to the needs of the clients and offer various levels of support. Our aim is to support to young people with their individual needs to enable then to gain life skills to move on to lower or independent supported living. This is a fast paced, energetic service. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES <ul> <li>You will have your own caseload of clients to manage and will work with them on a one to one basis. You will identify their needs by listening to them, put together a client needs assessment and manage risks.</li> <li>Carrying out housing management and health and safety tasks as required</li> <li>Support to move clients on from accommodation services to suitable accommodation options</li> <li>You will mediate and or negotiate with existing housing providers to help prevent homelessness</li> <li>You will help and support individuals by providing advice on housing, welfare benefits, rent deposits and household goods via a variety of schemes.</li> <li>You will help clients with the practicalities of moving to new accommodation, such as contacting energy suppliers</li> <li>You will encourage individuals to develop practical skills such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, housework, laundry, personal health and hygiene</li> <li>Carrying out drop in sessions at designated locations.</li> <li>Liaise with colleges, training agencies, employers to help clients to gain access to education, find work or maintain their benefit entitlement</li> <li>Work closely with other agencies involved in the clients' support such as social services or CAMHS to ensure all areas of need are met</li> <li>To build and maintain a good knowledge of local specialist services and opportunities to which clients can be signposted when appropriate such as for debt advice or peer support groups.</li> <li>Be prepared to undertake role across 3 young peoples' services in the local area if needed</li> <li>Any other reasonable duties required in the interest of the organisation</li></ul>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE &amp; ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING Previous experience in this sector is not essential but you will be able to demonstrate a real passion for wanting to work with vulnerable young people in the homeless sector.
